Which hypervisors does OmniCube support?
OmniCube, as a server virtualization system based on a Solaris fork (OmniOS and Illumos), uses a layered approach that integrates different virtualization and containerization technologies. The hypervisor used to manage complete guest operating systems is Bhyve.
This layered architecture allows OmniCube to support several types of environments and applications:
- Bhyve for complete guest OSes
- Solaris Zones (Native Containerization): OmniCube uses native containerization (Solaris Zones) for its own services.
- LX Zones: LX Zones are used to run Linux applications without requiring a separate operating system.
This combination of technologies aims to maximize compatibility while simplifying maintenance.
